T-Minus 4 Days (3rd day of riding)

July 1st, 2017
Leeds, AL to Savannah, GA (approx 400 miles)

I would also be remiss in not mentioning that while this is my 3rd day of riding, the California crew is on day 7 and getting close to 3000 miles so far.  And this is just the start.

Today's post will be shorter.  Mostly because I'm making it the morning after.  I've seen some of the videos that Frank has been taking, I'll work to get them uploaded in the next day or so.  Also, during the slack day before the Cannonball starts, I'll have to post more about my fellow riders.

This was going to be a long day.  Probably close to 400 miles.  Good news is that this matches some of the longer Cannonball days for distance.  Of course, times will be longer as the routes avoid all interstates.

Pre-ride checks reveal everything is in working order and we are off.

Our 7am takeoff really happened about 7:20.  We are getting much better at this!

We stuck to the 20 for the first part of the morning.  Standard interstate riding with exception of cruising right along at 62 mph.  Then we rode south to avoid Atlanta but found some really nice country roads.  Two things to remember.

Number 1, Stay hydrated

Number 2:  Stay dry

We accomplished both.

Pulled into Savannah, unpacked and went to find dinner.  Ate at The Lady and Sons (Paula Deans restaurant).  The food way amazing.  We sampled a bit of everything and rolled out.  Make sure you have the mini-desserts.  The Ooey Gooey Butter Cake was AWESOME!

Followed up with a stroll down Savannah's Riverstreet.

Back to the motel and time for some sleep.  Not sure what these mattresses were made of, but I need one.  They drained the life right out of me.  It was either that or the weather channel.

G'night folks.

Tomorrow, Yulee, FL
